Elfi Bollow Tobin passed away with her family by her side on Wednesday morning, September 12, 2012 at Charles Lemoyne Hospital in Greenfield Park, near her home in St-Lambert, Quebec of complications from multiple myeloma.
Elfi was predeceased in 2003 by her husband, Roger Tobin, of Hemmingford and St-Lambert; in 2008 by her step-daughter, Mary Tobin, of Cooperstown, NY; and in 2009 by her sister, Margret Kempke of Hamburg, Germany. She will be eternally missed by her step-sons, Michael Tobin of Fort Lauderdale and Patrick Tobin and his wife, Tamara Stevenson, of Hemmingford. She was the beloved “Oma” of Ryan, Sean, and Brendan Tobin of Westmount, Quebec, and Laura Tobin-Mansfield of New Orleans. She was a wonderful sister-in-law to Dietrich Kempke of Hamburg and neighbor to Lorraine and Don Keays of St-Lambert.
Elfi was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1930 and endured the suffering of war before immigrating to Quebec in the early 1950’s. She had a long and distinguished working career with the CBC. She was a renowned gardener and accomplished amateur artist whose flowers and paintings symbolized the beauty and joy she was to all who knew her. Her kindness, honesty, and love complemented her stubborn, determined, self-reliance and intelligence. Her earthly life was a gift to us all.
